Double clevis mounting
A clevis lets the cylinder pivot as it works, which is what a swinging or tilting mechanism needs — a gate, a tipping chute, a hinged cover. The body swings on a pin at the rear while the rod end drives an arm, and the angle between them changes through the stroke. Rigid mountings cannot do this: bolt a cylinder solid to a frame and drive a pivoting arm with it, and the rod takes the side load every cycle.
What this means for the rod end
A clevis-mounted cylinder needs a matching pivot at the rod end — a rod clevis or a knuckle joint — so both ends are free to turn in the same plane. Ordering the body without that fitting is the usual oversight.
What changed in the Z generation
Mass reduced by up to 15% against the previous design, mounting dimensions unchanged, and the air cushion made easier to adjust — worth having at ø63 with 275 mm of travel, where the piston arrives at the end cover with real momentum.
