Where a short stroke on a big bore is used
Clamping and pressing need force, not travel. A ø40 bore at 25 mm stroke delivers roughly 2.5 times the thrust of a ø25 cylinder while adding very little length, so it suits fixtures where the part only has to move a few millimetres but has to be held firmly.
