SMC D-M9PSAPC — D-M9 series solid state auto switch, PNP output, direct mounting type with a pre-wired connector. Clamps into the cylinder switch groove and detects piston position through the tube wall.

Solid state or reed
A reed switch has a mechanical contact that eventually welds or wears out; a solid state switch has none, so it survives high cycle rates and lasts far longer. Solid state is also faster, which matters when a short stroke is completed in tens of milliseconds. The trade-off is that it needs a supply and cannot simply be wired in series with a load like a reed.
PNP or NPN
PNP sources current to the load and is the usual choice on European and Korean PLCs; NPN sinks it and is more common on older Japanese equipment. The D-M9N is the NPN equivalent of this switch. Getting this wrong means the input never turns on, so check the PLC card before ordering.

Order by the full code D-M9PSAPC. Output type, lead length and connector are all in the suffix. The switch must also match the cylinder — direct mount types fit cylinders with the corresponding groove, and a band mount version is used on round-body cylinders.
