SMC MGPM25-50Z — MGP-Z series guided compact cylinder, ø25 bore with 50 mm stroke, slide bearing guide. Two guide rods carry the side load instead of the piston rod, so an offset load will not bend the rod or wear the seal.

Why a guided cylinder
A plain cylinder rod is made to take axial load. Hang a plate or a gripper off the end and every stroke works the rod sideways in its bearing, which shows up as a leaking rod seal within months. The MGP carries that load on two guide rods running in their own bearings, so the piston rod only pushes — which is what it is designed to do.
Slide bearing or ball bushing
The M suffix is the slide bearing version: higher load capacity, more tolerant of shock and contamination, and quieter. The ball bushing version (L) moves with less friction and suits higher speeds and more frequent cycling. Pick by whether the duty is heavy or fast.
What changed in the Z generation
Shortened guide rods and thinner plates cut up to 24% from the mass of the previous design, and the guide rods are up to 22 mm shorter — which reduces the clearance needed behind the cylinder when it is installed. Band-type and strong magnetic field auto switches mount directly without adding width.

Order by the full code MGPM25-50Z. Bore, stroke and guide type are in the code. This series replaces the MGP (non-Z), discontinued in April 2012 — if your machine carries an MGPM25-50, this is the current equivalent, though mounting should be checked against the drawing before ordering.
