SMC MY1M16-400L — MY1M series mechanically jointed rodless cylinder, ø16 bore with 400 mm stroke, slide bearing guide. The carriage runs on its own guide, so the load does not have to be supported by an external rail.

Why rodless at 400 mm
A rod cylinder needs its stroke length again behind the body for the rod to retract into — 800 mm of machine for 400 mm of travel. A rodless cylinder keeps the moving element inside the tube, so the installed length is roughly the stroke plus the end caps. On a long transfer that is usually what decides whether the axis fits the frame.
Slide bearing guide
The M version carries an integrated slide bearing guide, so the carriage takes the load directly and no external rail is needed. Slide bearings tolerate shock and contamination better than ball types and run quietly; the trade-off is more friction, so for high speed or high cycle rates the cam follower and ball bushing versions in the MY1 range are the better fit. Five guide types are standardised across the series, which lets the same stroke be specified against the actual load rather than over-specified.
Typical use
Long transfers, gantry axes, door and shutter movement, and traverses where the return length of a rod cylinder will not fit.
