Double solenoid: why it is chosen
A single solenoid valve springs back to its rest position when power is lost, so the cylinder returns whether that is wanted or not. A double solenoid holds its last position, which is what you need when a clamp must stay closed through a power interruption, or when a moving axis must not slam back to home on a fault. The trade-off is that the control system has to remember the state, since the valve will not tell you.
Body ported or base mounted
Body ported takes the tubing straight into the valve, which suits a cylinder sitting on its own somewhere in the machine. Once several valves sit together, a manifold base shares supply and exhaust and is the tidier option.
