SMC SY5420-5LOU-01F-Q — SY5000 series 5-port solenoid valve, three position type, body ported with Rc 1/8 connections. Both solenoids de-energised leaves the spool centred, which holds the cylinder where it stands.

Why a three position valve
A two position valve always drives the cylinder to one end or the other. A three position valve adds a centre where neither solenoid is energised, so the cylinder can be stopped part way through its travel — needed for jogging an axis into position, for holding a load when the sequence pauses, or for letting an operator move a mechanism by hand during setup.
Centre position types
Closed centre traps air on both sides and holds position; exhaust centre vents both sides so the cylinder can be pushed by hand; pressure centre feeds both sides. Each is a different order code and the behaviour on a power cut is quite different, so confirm which the machine needs before ordering.
